Senior Developer
Paul is one of our Senior Developers. He lives and works at Attunga, a campsite in the NSW Southern Highlands in Australia.
How long have you worked here?
I’m currently in my 12th year.
What do you enjoy about living at camp?
I enjoy living in community. It’s great spending free time with interns and staff. There’s always plenty of interesting people to meet and learn from. The scenery and walking areas around site are something I love too.
If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
I would have to say steak and prawn fajitas. Mexican food is my favourite!
What animal would you say you’re most like?
Probably a golden retriever: I love to eat; I’m always up for a ball game (basketball); I enjoy the company of my friends and family; I’m a bit of a homebody; I’m loyal, and like to please. I have a golden retriever and we get along really well. I can definitely relate to his thought processes sometimes.
What interests you about software development?
I’ve always been keen on learning new skills. I enjoy being creative too, though I’m not a great artist or musician. I found software development was an avenue where I could learn, and apply my new knowledge to create programs people could use and enjoy.
If you could add one thing to every camp instantly, what would it be?
A Chipotle (Mexican food) burrito stand.
What do you enjoy about working on venue360?
I thoroughly enjoy creating a clean user experience. There’s something rewarding about abstracting complexity away to a simple, easy-to-use screen/set of screens. (Of course, it should work that way).
It’s always a challenging balance between creating a simple interface, that’s still powerful especially with a system with the depth and complexity that venue360 has behind the scenes. A few screens in venue360 might have the scope of another company’s whole product, I guess that’s what makes it so flexible and powerful. I’m always thinking of ways we could improve existing screens in venue360 to be easier to use or better looking. I’d love to add some tasteful animations in places. I’m excited to implement those ideas more and more in the future.
